Celebrating 24-year Anniversary In Business November 2024

The Structured Family Caregiving program (SFC) with A One Home Care, Inc. offers financial and support services to Georgia Medicaid families. This program provides financial assistance to family members caring for loved ones with disabilities or chronic illnesses. But what exactly qualifies as “care”? Today, we’ll break down the daily tasks of living (ADLs) that family caregivers often assist with.

Understanding ADLs

ADLs are the fundamental activities we need to perform independently for our daily well-being. There are two main categories:

  • Basic ADLs (BADLs): These are the most essential tasks, including:
    • Dressing: Helping your loved one put on and take off clothes.
    • Bathing: Assisting with showering, bathing, or personal hygiene.
    • Eating: Preparing meals, feeding, or ensuring proper nutrition.
    • Toileting: Assisting in the bathroom.
    • Transferring: Helping your loved one move safely between sitting, standing, walking, or using a wheelchair.
    • Continence: Managing incontinence issues.
  • Instrumental ADLs (IADLs): These involve more complex tasks that contribute to independent living, such as:
    • Housework: Light housekeeping, laundry, and errands.
    • Meal Preparation: Planning, shopping for, and cooking meals.
    • Transportation: Driving your loved one to appointments or outings.
    • Medication Management: Reminding your loved one to take medications and refilling their prescriptions.
    • Finances: Managing bills and finances.
    • Communication: Using the phone, mail, or internet.

Structure Makes a Difference

The Structured Family Care Program recognizes the significant role family caregivers play. By providing financial assistance, the program helps ease the burden. It allows families to continue caring for their loved ones at home.
